We are a company that heavily invests in succession planning. So the best way to become an Assistant Manager or Counter/Retail/Store Manager is to start out as a Retail Employee. Starting your career in a retail customer service role, means that you intuitively understand the culture of the brand and recognise the importance of providing the team with a clear framework of strategic priorities to achieve counter goals.

However from time to time we do need to look outside of our business to engage new talent. We prefer our Retail Managers to have the following qualifications;

• 3 - 5 years of Retail Experience
• 2 years of previous Management experience
• Exceptional Communication skills
• Previous experience coaching and developing team members

At Estée Lauder Companies we consider our managers to be ‘Leaders’ in every sense of the word. Our Retail Leaders are responsible for the total operation of their assigned store or counter and leads their team in customer service, sales achievement and successes. The Retail Leader is also accountable for the development and progression of their team including the Assistant Manager. It essential to the success of this role, that the Leader be capable of developing strong working relationships with those around them and with their team in head office.

Take It To The Next Level - Working At Our Head Office

There are a number of different business functions an employee from Retail can create a head office career with.

• Sales
• Education
• Visual Merchandising
• Travel Retail

Retail employees can gain experience whilst working on the retail floor in the above head office functions. In the past we have given retail employees opportunities to take on extra responsibilities when their direct reports have gone on holidays or helped with a project or event.

However it is also possible to combine your University Degree or Tafe Diploma with retail experience and apply for a head office role in Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Online, Creative Services, Communications, Store Design and Supply Chain, Procurement and Inventory Management. The Human Resources team look favourably upon those who have previously worked within the Estée Lauder Companies brands’ or have experience working for a retail or FMCG companies.
